Bert Owen Scott, Jr

Bert O. Scott, Jr., 69, was born October 7, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri to Bert O.Scott, Sr. and Betty Rice Scott.  Bert was a veteran of the US Army.   After volunteering for the DeSoto Fire Department, he became one of the first paid firefighters in the early 70's.  Bert had his associates degree in Fire Prevention.  He was proud of his service to his country, his Firefighter Brotherhood and his incredible three sons.  He passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 22, 2019 at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield, Texas.

Survivors included his wife, Barbara S. Scott, sons,  Bert O. Scott, III, and girlfriend, Ashley Duell,  Ronnie Scott and wife, Holly and Branden Scott and his wife, Kelsey, three grandchildren, Ty Scott, Jake Scott, and Matthew Armendarez and wife, Hannah, brothers, Dale Scott, Jimmie Scott and his wife, Denise, nieces, Andrea Hall and her husband, Eddie and their children,, Adyson and Garrett, Robin Long and her husband, Richard.  Bert was preceded in death by Bert O. Scott, Sr., Betty Scott and Dewey Alan Scott.

Visitation will be at West/Hurtt Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Bert's Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019 in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home in DeSoto.

Interment with Military Honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.

Memorials are encouraged to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation or the Vietnam Veterans of America.
