Carolyn Throckmorton Pope was born prematurely on July 9, 1947, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City to James and Theresa Belle Smith Throckmorton. After her parents took her home after a two-week stay in the "preemie unit," she spent her early childhood years in The Village, Oklahoma, where she was preceded by the birth of a brother, Michael, and succeeded by a birth of sister Judy. She and her siblings attended the neighborhood school: Andrew Johnson Elementary. She loved the Liberace Show and walked home at lunchtime almost every day to view it.
After the move to Yukon in 1961, she enrolled in the Yukon Junior-Senior High School, where she met her first official boyfriend, Frank. She excelled in English and music, and she was an unofficial piano accompanist for the "Jolly Notes" when the group went to the 1961 World's Fair in New York City.
She was immersed in school organizations (Annual Staff, Future Homemakers, and Future Teachers of America) and with a GPA of3.9 named "Salutatorian" of her graduating class although she was lauded as "Valedictorian" in the yearbook.
She was pre-deceased by both grandparents, her parents, James and Theresa Throckmorton, and brother, Mike Throckmorton.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Frank, and her great little sister, Judy. She is also survived by Mike Throckmorton's widow, Roxie Throckmorton, and their son, Jason Throckmorton. She is also survived by a host of relatives, friends, and two four-legged children, Annie and Daphne.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 310 Roaring Springs Drive, in DeSoto, Texas, on Friday, March 23, at 11 :00 a.m., with no interment afterward, as she and Frank agreed to place her remains in a Minnie Mouse Lunchbox, and his in a Mickey Mouse Lunchbox; the two will eventually be beside each other next to Frank's mother and father in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to Straydog, Inc., a no-kill shelter, at P.O. Box 1465 in Gun Barrel City, Texas. Care loved her little dogs, and for that matter, all little dogs-especially shelter puppies.
