IN LOVING MEMORY we celebrate and honor the life of Chandra Tarrant Armstead, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, who passed away on June 26, 2024. Born and raised in Oak Cliff, Dallas Texas, Chandra attended W.H. Atwell middle school and went on to graduate from the High School of Health Professions, continuing her education at North Texas State University. Ultimately, earning a degree in Art and Psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington. While working at Methodist Dallas Medical Center as a medical technician, she met her husband of 40 years, Ronald Armstead. She later discovered weightlifting, a sport that gave her joy, and inspired her to later compete professionally as a bodybuilder, and a powerlifter, placing in a number of national championships from Baton Rouge to Orlando, and San Antonio to St. Croix. A true artist, she pursued creative expression in painting, ceramics, sculpture and large-scale three-dimensional art pieces exhibited at the Kimbell Art Museum Forth Worth, the Bath House Cultural Center at White Rock Lake, and many area galleries. In Sanskrit, the name Chandra means “bright, shining, or glittering”, and these are apt descriptions of her personality. A bold and youthful soul with a gentle spirit, she had an easy way of making friends, wore a big smile, had the biggest laugh, and a love for people and a love for pets. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Edward Armstead; her daughter, Kris Jenkins and her family; and her brother, “Lynn” - George Tarrant, Jr. and his family; as well as other extended family members. We miss Chandra and will always cherish her memory. With all that she did, and said, and was able to achieve, she is someone who loved deeply, and someone who is deeply loved. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Friday - July 19, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Larry D. Williams officiating.
