David Lynn Stanford

d. March 18, 2019

David Lynn Stanford, 74, went to his heavenly home on March 18, 2019 after a valiant battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

David was born to the late Otis W. Stanford and Annie Mae (Chenoweth) Stanford, in Dallas, TX on October 3, 1944. David moved to DeSoto, TX at the age of 10, where he graduated in 1962. David started Atlantic Paper Company in 1972 and continued to own and operate the business until his passing. David was very involved in growing the DeSoto Pee Wee Football Association. He was ordained as a Deacon at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Martinez, California. He also served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of DeSoto and at Hampton Road Baptist Church. He served as a deacon for 50 years. In January 1987 David became a Dallas Police Reserve Officer where he served until September 1999.

David was blessed with a large and loving family. He married the love of his life, Verla Mae Cooper, on October 13, 1962 in DeSoto, TX. David and Verla had three sons and David was very active in coaching his three boys in football, baseball and soccer. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks. David and Verla loved to travel to Phoenix, AZ for Rangers spring training and spent many years there during the month of March.

David’s passion was his faith, his family and his country. David was a true man of faith and was one of the most giving men. He would go out of his way to help anyone in need no matter how small or great the need; whether they were family, friend or acquaintance. He was very patriotic and loved his country and the American flag. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with God.

David is survived by his wife, Verla; his sons Paul and Janice Stanford, Red Oak, TX, Steven and Lisa Stanford, Waxahachie, TX and James Stanford, Red Oak, TX; his grandchildren Justin/Amanda Stanford, Clayton/Kelsi Stanford, Alyssa/Dylan Anthony, Jessica Stanford, Jordan Stanford, April/Andrew Daniels, Taylor Stanford, Sarah Stanford, Caitlyn Stanford and Ashton Stanford; his great grandchildren Caden Stanford, Lincoln Gray, Bentley Stanford, Hope Stanford, Kieora Lindbeck, Grifynn Lindbeck and Hunter Stanford; his sister Anne Williams, brother Wayne Stanford, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
