Dorothy Louise Pope - Born June 3, 1922 Died February 15, 2021 Dorothy L. Pope was born on June 3, 1922 to William G. & Irene O. Clark in Dallas, Texas. She was raised with two siblings, her older sister Lucille, who was given the privilege of naming Dorothy, and a cherished younger brother Billie. Dorothy was given almost total responsibility of raising her baby brother Billie when their father died when she was just twelve years old and her mother had to go to work to support her family. Dorothy met her husband, James P. Pope in high school. After graduating from Technical High School in Dallas, she married J.P. on November 2, 1940. They were happily married for 59 years. Dorothy & J.P. had two children, Donna & Patty. After enjoying life as a homemaker and raising their two daughters, she went to work outside the home. She was employed by the Dallas Independent School District for 20 years as a secretary to several school principals at various school campuses in Dallas. Dorothy was a devout Christian & Sunday school teacher at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Dallas, and most recently, an active member of Ovilla United Methodist Church in Ovilla, TX. Dorothy died peacefully on Monday February 15, 2021. Her husband, J.P. preceded her in death in 1999. She is survived by her daughter Donna Craig and her husband Peter Craig. She was a beloved "Mumu" to her grandson Jason Bailey and grandson Jeff Bailey and his wife Rachel Bailey, great-granddaughters, Kathryn & McKenna Bailey. She is also survived by her daughter Patty Purcell and her husband David Purcell, beloved "Mumu" to granddaughter Kimberly Brown and her husband Justin Brown and grandson Eric Purcell. Dorothy is also survived by her brother Bill Clark and his wife Francine Clark and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held on Saturday - May 22, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 1500 S. Westmoreland Rd., DeSoto, TX 75115.
