87, of Dallas, TX passed away February 03, 2009. Mr. Haxel graduated from Norman High School, Oklahoma in 1939 and was attending the University of Oklahoma prior to his induction into the Army in February 1941. He received his basic training at Camp Barkley, Texas. He was then sent by the Army to attend the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Mr. Haxel was stationed at several other Army bases before leaving the U. S. in May of 1945 for duty in Hawaii where he was Staff Sergeant of the Engineer Ponton Bridge Company. He was a member of the Army Band for several years and an outstanding all-around athlete in company athletics. He was selected "most outstanding member of Company". He enjoyed camping, fishing and especially his family reunions. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Mr. Haxel is survived by his wife of 68 years: Clarice Haxel; daughter & son in law: Jeri & Bob "Sherman" Adams; daughter: Patty Haxel; son & daughter in law: Robert "Skeet" & Jody Haxel; grandchildren: Sandi Graham, Tammy Sampley, Scott Haxel, Zamaine Ventura, Deano Ventura & Nina Broadway; great grandchildren: Justin, Chris, Abby, Rob, Steven, Jeremy, Jason & Tony; 3 great great grandchildren; brother: William F. Haxel, Jr. and sister: Irene Shepard. The family will receive friends at West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Friday, February 6, 2009 from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at which time a Funeral Service will begin in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Royce Jennings, officiating. Interment will follow in the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Lane B., Dallas, TX.
