Earl Victor Henderson, Jr., was born March 26, 1933, to Earl and Mary Noble Henderson in Texarkana, Arkansas. He started his own business at 10 years old mowing lawns and hiring a group of boys to help. he graduated from Texarkana High School and served two years in the United States Army in Korea. He returned to Dallas with his mother in 1954 and started a typesetting business with a partner. He was married to Glenda Kershner Henderson in 1959 and they had two sons: Earl Jay Henderson, and Michael Joey Henderson. He sold his share of the business in 1963 and went to work for John A. Scott Company, which went on to become Southwestern Typographics, and later the Graphics Group. He was befriended by Clifford J. Osborne, the principal stockholder and Chairman of the Board, who became his Mentor, and in 1976, he became the President and CEO of the company. He served until he retired in 1998. He was an avid sports fan and could quote the stats on many college and pro football and baseball players. He loved golf and tennis, as well as hiking, skiing, sailing, ballroom dancing, horseback riding, and doing his own building. His greatest love was for flying. He flew a Cessna 401 for the Graphics Group and held a Commercial Pilot's license as well as an instrument and multi-engine rating. He had a long and happy retirement at Thorntree Country Club playing golf and enjoying his grandchildren: Joely Rene Henderson and Jake Michael Henderson. Parkinson's robbed him of the use of his body in his declining years, but he retained his love of life, a good attitude, and a quick sense of humor. He truly lived life to the fullest. He is survived by his wife: Glenda, his two sons: Jay and Joey Henderson and two grandchildren: Joely and Jake, all of Midlothian.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the West/Hurtt Funeral Home in DeSoto.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
