Elizabeth Payne

April 8, 1930 — January 1, 2024

Mabel Elizabeth (Liz) Bullock Payne was born on April 8, 1930, in Mabank, Texas to Leonard D. Bullock and Easter Estelle McKee Bullock. Liz was named after her grandmothers, Mabel McKee and Elizabeth Bullock. She was the eldest of three children and has two brothers, Burton Bullock, Sr. and Roy Bullock. She married the love of her life, Troyce J. Payne on May 15, 1953. Together they had one son, Gary Alan Payne born on April 25, 1954, in Dallas, Tx. She was very active in the community. She was the Den Mother of Den 1 Pack 7 of Cub Scouts of America in Dallas, PTA member at Harrell Budd Elementary in Dallas and the PTA in DeSoto, member of the Eastern Star in DeSoto, and became a member of the Dal-Cliff Winwood Lions Club in 2000. During her younger years she worked as a teletype operator for BF Goodrich Tire Company. Liz was gifted with natural artistic talents; her main passion was oil painting. She went into a partnership with her longtime friend Shirley Dykes and they opened the Teller Cage in Lancaster, Texas. Together they would teach individuals how to oil paint and they would sell their own paintings. Her artistic talents were unlimited, she made quilts, blankets, dolls, and the list goes on. Liz was a people person and she never met a stranger. Liz passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2024 at 93 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband, Troyce J. Payne who died April 3, 1999. She had a strong network of close friends, some going back as far as elementary school, who also have preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Gary Payne and his wife Laura; her grandchildren Jeffrey Payne, Jennifer Payne Carpenter and Scott Carpenter; and her great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Elizabeth and Clayton William Carpenter; her brothers Burton Bullock, Sr and his partner Dollie Marshall and Roy Bullock and his wife Barbara. The family would also like to send a huge thank you to one of her closest friends, Joanne and her other friends at Champion Cove who were a huge part of her life. The family will receive friends at West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 10 – 11:00 A.M. Graveside Services will follow later that afternoon at 1:30 P.M. in Laurel Land Memorial Park, Dallas TX with Pastor Eric Bey officiating. Eric Bey is they Pastor of LifePoint Community Church in Red Oak, TX and the Chaplain of Dalcliff-Winwood Lions Club. She wanted people to celebrate her death “New Orleans style” so the family is asking that people wear bright, cheery and comfortable clothing. Pallbearers include: Clayton Carpenter, Scott Carpenter, Greg Goodwin, George B. Herndon, JR., Jeffrey Payne and David Trujillo. More from the family: Grandma, You were a larger than life person and your unexpected death has been so terribly hard to take in. I know you were 93 years old, but what some people may not know is that although your body was 93, your mind and spirit were so much younger!!! I am going to miss all your antics. I don’t know how I am going to get out of a police ticket without you with me. I am so thankful I had the opportunity to call you grandma. You loved so fiercely and we had a bond between us that I am going to miss. I love you so much. You mean the world to me. You will be one of the first people I look for when it is my time to go to heaven. Until we meet again. Laissez le bon temps rouler. – Your Lovebucket
