Erma Lee Brown Patterson

Erma, 97, a lifelong Texan was born April 18, 1918 in Lone Star, Texas which is located just outside of Gorman in Eastland County. She was the youngest of 9 children (the 6th daughter) of Terry and Theodosia Brown and grew up around the west Texas towns of Hamlin and Anson. Erma loved and enjoyed every one of her 12 years of public school - culminating in her graduating from Anson Texas High School as the 1935 Valedictorian. She next graduated from Draughan's Business College in Abilene, Texas proudly using her valedictorian scholarship of $300.00. Erma soon met Doc Patterson in Haskell, Texas and married him, the love of her live, on September 12, 1940. For a west Texas farmer's daughter of the 1930's, Erma's career successfully spanned from legal secretary for 3 lawyers to medical office supervisor in Dallas Chester Clinic Hospital. While managing her career, she successfully raised 5 children (from 1941 through 1979): Eland Patterson and his wife Bonnie, Patricia Hollingshead, Sandra Miles and her husband, Lee, Midge Garner and Robert Patterson and his wife: Brenda. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Erma was an excellent gourmet cook and seamstress. She could cook gourmet and down home meals with ease and could make clothes for her girls that sent them to Sunday School looking like a million dollars! Erma loved singing and praising the Lord and was very active in several DeSoto Baptist Churches including Calvary Baptist, Southwest Baptist and Hampton Road Baptist Churches. Erma was a dedicated Christian and loved the Lord and she is surely in heaven watching down on us with our Daddy. She will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Saturday - June 20, 2015 with Funeral Services beginning at 11:00 A.M. (all on the same day) with Dr. Charles Kendall, officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, TX.
