SMITH, Ernest Jerome ("Jerry," "Ern"), 77, passed away May 28, 2017.  Mr. Smith was born September 24, 1939 in Los Angeles, California, to Ernest and Margaret Smith.  He served in the US Air Force from 1958 until 1964.  After serving the country in the Air Force, he served the citizens of Dallas as a Dallas Police Officer (#2048) from November 20, 1964 until December 10, 1994.  Mr. Smith was promoted to sergeant on June 23, 1969, an accomplishment of which he was exceptionally proud.  The police department was also where he met his loving wife, Monica, and they married in 1983.  He is survived by his wife Monica, daughter Rhonda and family, his sister, Janet, niece Shelley Berglund and family, nephew Bryan Christopherson and family.  He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and sister, Marles Christopherson.In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Assist the Officer Foundation, 1412 Griffin Street East, Dallas, TX, 75215, (214)-747-6839.Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held in the Dallas/Ft.
