Ethel Marie Potter Philp, 92, of Dallas, TX. Ethel went to her eternal rest on April 2, 2023 due to complications from a severe stroke that she suffered on March 20, 2023. She passed away in peace at home, surrounded by her children and several members of her extended family. She was born to Teddy and Erma Potter on November 21, 1930 in Villa Grove, Illinois. She is one of ten children and is survived by one of her sisters, Sylvia Ellinger. Her other five sisters and three brothers all preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by Paul Philp, her husband of forty-five years, who passed away on March 17, 1997. Ethel is the incredible mother of ten children: Valla C. Philp, Paul S. Philp (Moira); Mark B. Philp (Kim); Gregory A. Philp - who preceded her in death on May 1, 1959, Lorie T. Wolking (Randy); Lisa M. Philp, Dawn M. Wolf (John); Julie A. Philp, Ivan T. Philp (Lisa) and Jenny D. Philp. In addition to the blessings of ten children, Ethel has ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Additionally, one grandchild and one great-grandchild preceded her in death. She moved several times during her childhood because of the Great Depression, as her father jumped from job-to-job. She settled in south Chicago, where she spent the later years of her youth. She started married life with Paul in Amarillo Texas in 1952, where Paul served time in the Air Force. Shortly after leaving the Air Force, Paul landed a job in San Diego California. However, job changes necessitated another move, to Kansas City, Missouri in 1966, where they would spend a few years before finally settling in Texas in 1969. Ethel was the rock of her family. She loved God and her Church. She spent many years supporting her parish. Countless bake sales, the altar guild, school volunteer activities, etc. etc. Oh… did we mention that she also raised a small army and managed everything? God has blessed every friend and family member that was touched by her. She is greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
