Gary A. Adkins recently passed away in DeSoto, Texas. He was born and raised in Dallas, growing up in Oak Cliff. He graduated from Sunset High School in 1966 and soon thereafter married Valerie Williams. Together they spent the rest of their days living in DeSoto, where they raised 2 children. Valerie preceded him in death in 2011. He is survived by his two children, CDR Allen Adkins and Dr. Adrian Sierant, and 4 grandchildren, Madelynn, Vivianna, George, and Olivia.
In his youth, he was a scratch golfer who once just missed the cut for the U.S. Open. He played and won many tournaments, highlighted by winning the Oak Cliff Country Club Championship in 1981. Gary was also an avid movie buff who, with a hobby of collecting 16mm films and classic movie posters. You could always count on him to be watching a classic B-Western with any of his childhood heroes - Buck Jones, the Durango Kid, or John Wayne...or another thrilling chapter of a Republic Serial such as the Crimson Ghost or Daredevils of the Red Circle. He’ll be missed by friends and family alike, but now he has joined those heroes in the great movie in the sky.
