Gary Mac Wilkerson

Gary Mac Wilkerson, 64, of Emmett, Texas, passed away November 25, 2016. Mac was born May 11, 1952 in Dallas, Texas to Pete and Annette Wilkerson. Mac grew up in DeSoto, Texas where he met and married his wife, Sarah Cochran Wilkerson. They later moved to Red Oak in 1972 where they raised their two boys. Mac was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a retired cement contractor and loved hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He spent his recent years in the hay field, tending to his cattle, waiting for his grandkids and their friends to show up for the hunting and fishing activities, along with countless hours at grandkids sporting events. For anyone that knew him, knew he never missed a golf tournament and enjoyed playing poker and “tonk” with family and many friends. Bob Hill and Josh Perry said it best, “There will never be another story teller like Mac; nobody enjoyed hearing him tell a story as much as himself.” Mac was preceded in death by his grandmother Opal Wilkerson, grandfather Lawson Wilkerson, grandfather Earnest McWilliams, grandmother Ruby McWilliams, father Monroe “Pete” Wilkerson and grandson Hunter Lane Wilkerson. Mac was survived by his wife, Sarah Wilkerson, mother Annette Wilkerson, son Jason Wilkerson and his wife Stacy Wilkerson, and son Kemp Wilkerson. Grandchildren Lauren, Madi, Cody, Jay Ryan, and Carter Wilkerson. The family will receive friends at West/Hurtt Funeral Home, 217 S. Hampton Rd., DeSoto, TX 75115 from 5 - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday - November 30, 2016. Funeral Services will be held at Hampton Road Baptist Church, 400 N. Hampton Rd., DeSoto, TX 75115 on Thursday - December 01, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Bruce Prindle, officiating. Those serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Skelley, Joe Cantu, Hadley Robinson, Robin Reeves, Larry Kerby, Brett Sapp, Gene Alberts, Buddy Upchurch and honorary pallbearers will be Bob Hill and James Smith. Following the services there will be a private graveside service for family only. The family would like to invite everyone back to the Wilkerson home for lunch @ 2020 N. W.
