George Earl Spurgin

of DeSoto, TX. was born December 3, 1934 in McKinney, TX. Our precious Lord took his hand and lead him home on March 23, 2009. A DeSoto resident since 1944 where he attended Lancaster High School and was named top "Class A' athlete in the Dallas area in 1953. He attended Abliene Christian College on an athletic scholarship. After college he served in the USAF for ten years, as Athletic Director of Otis Air Force Base. After his tour of duty he returned to the DeSoto area where he served with the Dallas Police Department from 1965 until his retirement in 1985. He is preceded in death by his mother Lucille Compton Spurgin, his father Roy and his Mom Betty Elkins Spurgin. He is survived by his wife, Joe Ann Spurgin; sons: James and wife Judy Estes and Steven Estes; granddaughters: Leigh Ann and Jamie; sisters: Nellie Ruth Oakley and Lurline and husband Harvey Echols; brothers: Roy Elcany, Jr. and wife Karen, Gene and wife Rita, Charles, Billy Dale and wife Carol Spurgin; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednedsay, March 25, 2009, 6-8 P. M. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 1:00 P. M. at Creekside Church of Christ, 5401 E. US Hwy. 287, Midlothian, TX. Interment with military honors will follow in the Holy Redeemer Cemetery, DeSoto, TX.
