Gerald Wayne Brooks, 64, of DeSoto, Texas, passed away on July 16, 2013 in Dallas, Texas.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 19th at The Grace Place, (Duncanville Church of Christ), 402 W. Danieldale Rd., Duncanville, TX at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18th at West-Hurtt Funeral Home in DeSoto, Texas from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. Interment will be at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery with Navy Honors.
Gerald was born in Dallas, Texas on October 31, 1948. He graduated from W.H. Adamson High School in Dallas and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After his years of service, Gerald received a degree in Business/Finance from The University of Texas. After many years in the financial industry, he worked with the SBA in Disaster Relief and Risk Management at the time of his death.
Gerald married his high school sweetheart, Charlene Washam, on August 14, 1969; they were married 43 years. He was a loving and caring husband, son, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He was a member of the Church of Christ and served as deacon for many years.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife: Charlene, mother: Pansy Brooks of Arlington, Texas, and mother-in-law: Allene Washam, two sons, Gregg Brooks and wife Vanessa of Highland Park, Texas and Brian Brooks and wife Jennifer of Forney, Texas, his sister: Norma Jane Menton and husband Ed and sister: Virginia (Dennie) Brooks and brother-in-law: Randy Washam. He is also survived by four very special grandchildren- Ian and Lucy Harrington, and Ian and Sarah Brooks, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends.
Gerald is preceded in death by his father: Raymond W. Brooks, father-in-law: Charles Washam and daughter-in-law: Sherry Willshire Brooks.
