Geraldine "Gerry" Blake Gilbert

Gerry, age 73 of DeSoto, passed away on September 3, 2015. She was born March 4, 1942 in Dallas to Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Autra Blake. She graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1960. In 1968 she married Bill Gilbert , of Olney, Texas. Throughout her career, she worked at Jake L. Hammon, Edwin L. Cox and retired from Bank of America in 2004. She was a member of Hampton Road Baptist Church and a longtime resident of DeSoto. Gerry lived by the Golden Rule: she treated others the way she wished to be treated. She was a very thoughtful and giving person, and took joy in sending cards to friends and family. Also, she was a very faithful daughter, in caring for her mother for many years with kindness, patience and compassion. Gerry also adored being a mother and grandmother. Her love of people extended to a love for animals. Gerry had a heart for helping stray cats. In short, she was a precious gem, who touched the lives of so many. Survivors include her husband: Bill, daughter and son-in-law: Vicki and Kyle Wright of Tyler, two grandsons: Jordan and Hunter, and several cousins. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2015 at the WEST/HURTT Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 A. M. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at WEST/HURTT Funeral Chapel.
