Hayward A. "Buddy" Gibson

January 16, 1924 — May 10, 2015

91, of Waxahachie, TX passed away on May 10, 2015. Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Virginia Gibson in December of 2014. He was born in Bloomburg, Texas, accepted Christ as his personal savior at age 14, graduated from high school there, then served in the U. S. Army in Europe during WWII from 1944-1946. He married Mary Spearman on December 22, 1945. Buddy graduated from Centenary College in 1950. He was the principal of Symrna Elementary School from 1950 - 1954. He graduated with his Masters Degree in 1953 from East Texas State University in Commerce. They moved to Dallas where he taught for 30 years in the Dallas School System until 1984. He was a real estate appraiser from 1984 until 1988, and finally taught at Mt. View College from 1988 until 1992, when he finally retired. Mr. Gibson had been a member of Hampton Road Baptist Church since 1963. Mr. Gibson was also preceded in death by his two brothers: Houston Gibson and Garvis Gibson. He is survived by his son & daughter in law: Ronnie & Dee Gibson; granddaughter: Stephanie Mae Schoendienst, and her husband: Rob Schoendienst; great grandchildren: Austin R. & Maegan E. Schoendienst; nieces and nephews: Peggy Waid, Wanda Mingle, Brent Gibson, Todd Gibson, Eden Sue Leach, Beverly Orr, Wayne Keese, Darren Keese, Deann Spearman, Donna Townsend, Nancy Norwine, and Darrell Ray Spearman, and sister in law: Barbara Keese of Mt. Enterprise, TX. The family will receive friends from 12:NOON until 1:00 P.M. on Friday - May 15, 2015 in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home with the Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 P.M. (all on the same day). Officiating will be Rev. Joe Orr of First Baptist Church of Mt. Enterprise, Texas. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, TX. Please make Memorials to the Charity of your choice.
