Horace Love Hoot was born in Livingston Texas November 26, 1931, passed away at home in Red Oak, Texas March 22, 2026.
Hoot spent the majority of his years at Red Oak, Hamilton, and DeSoto Texas.
Preceded in death by: Parents John H. and Bessie Hoot. The love of his life Vondal Hoot, brothers Lloyd and “Tot” Hoot, sister, Evelyn Capps.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Gary, daughter Sandra (Miss Tooter), daughter Cindy, 8 grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Hoot was a Sargent in the United States Marines for three years towards the end of the Korean war. He was a master electrician by trade. Hoot was a member of DeSoto Masonic Lodge #1409 for 50+ years.
Per his daughter Deborah, he should have been an inventor. He loved to improve on items already invented, like Velcro shoes and catheter holders. Ha Ha.
Hoot loved to give people nicknames, to name a few, Miss Tooter, the Duke, Stud, Shugs and Little Man.
Back when the girls were kids, he loved to imitate Donald Duck to make them laugh, he was pretty good at it too. He loved to laugh and make jokes.
Hoot loved country music and something he did not share with everyone is he loved to sing.
The family would really like to thank Stephanie Oliver, Dr. Ramos and his team, Dallas Veterans Hospital, Roland Sanchez, Hospice Plus Organization and DeSoto Masonic Lodge #1409.
Lastly, these are some of the words that Hoot asked Deborah to share at his funeral. They are: “Chin in, chest out,” “Keep America Rolling,” “Semper Fi,” “God, Country, and Family,” “Love You All,” “Hoot.”
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials or donations be made in Mr. Hoot's name to either the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children or the Disabled American Veterans.
The family will receive friends at West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Thursday - April 02, 2026 from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. at which time the procession will leave for the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mt. Creek Pkwy., Dallas, TX for a 2:00 P.M. Graveside Service with Military Honors.
Everyone is welcome to go back to Gary and Deborah’s house in Red Oak after the graveside service for some food and visiting.
