Horace W. Southward

Horace W. Southward, beloved husband, Daddy, Papa and brother, passed on to his eternal home, October 26th, 2015, surrounded by family and friends after a brief illness. Horace was born June 11th, 1929 in Hale Center, TX. He was raised on a family farm in Crosby County, TX, during The Great Depression. Upon leaving the farm, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he served honorably during the Korean War. Seeking to make his own way, he relocated to Dallas, TX where he met and married Kathryn Land and together they began their family. Honoring his roots, he relocated his family to rural Ovilla/Red Oak, TX. In 1975, he built his own company, Metro News Service, a national Contact Services firm. He was a pioneer and leader in Contact Services for the news publishing industry, with many years of service to The Dallas Times Herald, Morning News, Fort Worth Press, and Star-Telegram. Because of his enduring commitment to honoring God and personal integrity, his company flourished. He is preceded in death by parents Christopher Orr Southward and Susie Margaret Kimmons, brother James Orr Southward. He is survived by wife Kathryn Land Southward, children Eric Southward and wife Laura, Chris Southward, Shannon Southward, grandchildren Ben Southward, Rachel Southward, Noah Southward, Eli Walker and Toby Walker, several nieces and nephews, and brother Dean Priddy and wife Sue. Visitation Thursday, October 29th 5-7pm, West-Hurtt Funeral Home, DeSoto, TX. Service, Friday, October 30th, 11am, Hampton Road Baptist Church, DeSoto, TX. Burial, Monday, November 2nd, 10:30 am, DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Mr. Southward’s name to The Salvation Army or The Abiding Place in Buffalo, TX.
