It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ira Albert Trees. Ira was born on February 11, 1925 in Dallas, Texas, the son of the late Olvey & Gladys Trees. It was in second grade that he met the love of his life Lillian, and they were together from that point forward. They married in 1942 and were inseparable. Together they raised a family, enjoyed a life hunting and fishing, and were members of Wynnewood Baptist Church where Ira was a deacon. They celebrated 75 years of marriage before Lillian’s passing in 2018.
Ira was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the Navy on the USS Detroit. The war took him to the Aleutian Islands, throughout the Pacific, and ended in Tokyo Bay where he witnessed the Japanese signing of The Instrument of Surrender. Throughout his life of 101 years, he instilled in his family a love of the outdoors, a belief in hard work, and an unwavering dedication to family.
Ira is survived by his daughters: Sandra Bohanan and Cynthia Keller; three grandchildren: Bruce Bohanan, Angela Mobley and Christina Woodrome; great grandchildren: Ashley Neal, Jacob Bohanan, Abbey Mobley, Alexandra Mobley and Gage Woodrome; great great grandchildren: Harper, Alaina, Isaiah, Cohen and Callum.
Ira had also developed an extend family over the past three years; a team of individuals who cared for him and whom he called “dear friends”, “family”, and his “angels”.
Ira transitioned from this life on June 11, 2026. He will be remembered for his strength, sentimental nature, hard work, and love of family. His values live on in his family today. Ira was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Thursday - June 18, 2026 from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. with the Funeral Services honoring Ira beginning at 2:00 P.M.
Interment will follow in Trees Cemetery, Duncanville, TX.
