Born in Ruston, LA., on April 11, 1921, and passed away January 3, 2011 at Methodist Charlton hospital in Dallas, TX. Retired from Sun Oil after 36 years, where he worked as Chief of the Petroleum Engineers. A long time member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church, he also served the U. S. Navy as a fighter pilot in the "Hell Cats" and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a graduate of Texas A. & M. University. Monk cherished his family, his beloved dog, "Misty", and enjoyed golf. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bette Moncrief, daughters and sons in law: Judy and Ron Gibbs, Marilyn and Pat Berry, and Margaret and Hubert Taylor, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 10 a. m. in Bassett Chapel of Cliff Temple Baptist Church, 125 Sunset, Dallas, TX 75208, with Dr. Larry Williams, officiating. Private interment with Military Honors will be at Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Memorials in his memory are encouraged to Cliff Temple Baptist church.
