J.R. Sexton, 90 years of age, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2016 in DeSoto, Texas surrounded by loving family. J. R. was born on January 19, 1926 in Denison, Texas to the late Effie E. Jones Sexton and Porter Henderson Sexton. He had one older brother, Clarence, who predeceased him. Following his graduation from Howe High School, J. R. enlisted in the Army Air Force where he trained as a B-24 belly gunner and served his country in World War II.
J.R. married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Louise Brown in 1947 and they had one daughter, Pamela Lee Sexton. He lived in DeSoto, Texas for most of his adult life and had a career as an auto glass salesman for PPG and Nelson Brantley. After Marjorie’s death in 1992, J. R. married Esther Seeliger, a widow he met at church. He attended Hampton Road Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as deacon. He loved reading the Bible, spending time with his family, and watching Baylor and Dallas Cowboys football. J. R. was a sweet, easy-going man who was loved by all.
J.R. is survived by his wife of 22 years, Esther, daughter, Pamela Sexton Dodd and husband Randy of Buffalo, Texas; stepdaughter Elizabeth Adkins and husband Brian of Ovilla, Texas and stepson John Seeliger of DeSoto, TX. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Amber Peterson Senter and husband James of Savannah, Georgia, Ashley Peterson Wright and husband Payton of Houston, Texas, and Benjamin Adkins and Kathryn Adkins; and four great-grandchildren, Audrey and Nathan Senter, and Elizabeth and Margaret Wright.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday - September 21, 2016 from 5 - 7:00 P.M.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday - September 22, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Hampton Road Baptist Church, 400 N. Hampton Rd., DeSoto, TX with Rev. Kelly Wolverton, officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, DeSoto, TX.
