"POPPY" 64, of Glenn Heights, TX passed away on Saturday - February 02, 2013. He was a decorated Vietnam War veteran and Combat Promoted for saving the life of General Westmoreland after his chopper went down in a mine field. Jack was a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and was named Eagle Eyes because of how well he watched over his children. He never faltered in his love and adoration for anyone he considered family which was everyone. He raised and guided over 100 children during some of the worst times of their lives. His outlook on life and his ability to fight anything that life threw at him was remarkable and should be an inspiration to all of us. His strength flows through his grandchildren. Mr. Whitacre was preceded in death by a sister: Pat Tate and is survived by his wife: Kay "Hefer" Whitacre; daughter & son in law: Angel Marie "Little Hefer" & Ingo Hehner; son & daughter in law: Janoah "Gorilla" & Heather Whitacre; grandchildren: Logan "Trooper" Hehner & Lorelai "Little Monkey" Whitacre; brother: Harold Whitacre; numerous nieces & nephews and Jack's babies Duke & Dutchess "Little Shit". Viewing & Visitation is open to come and go on Thursday - February 07, 2013 from 2:00 P.M. till 6:00 P.M. Graveside Services and Interment with Military Honors will be held on Friday - February 08, 2013 at 9:15 A.M. in the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mt. Creek Pkwy., Dallas, TX 75211 214-467-3374 with Father Tuan Le, officiating. Those serving as pallbearers will be Harold Whitacre, Janoah Whitacre, John Callahan, Jason Callahan, Ingo Hehner, Kevin Whitacre, Chief Bear and Michael Turner. Poppy was the "Chief" of our family and will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to cross his path in life.
