Jay M. Davis passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2018. While his passage was sudden there was sufficient time for loving friends and family to surround him as he entered the arms of God. Jay did not leave this world alone.
Jay was born June 29, 1956 in Redding, California to John William Davis and Vera Joann Armstrong Davis. Both parents preceded him in passage. He is survived by two older sisters, Marty and Gloria.
Additionally Jay leaves behind:
Son Geoffrey Davis and wife Aimee
Daughter Erin Davis Haney and husband Paul Grandson Tyler Davis
Granddaughter Willow Davis and her mother Stephanie Grandsons Noah, Micah, Joshua and Jude Haney Grandchildren Quinn, Nichola and Simone Harris
Jay cherished his extended family of nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Jay's early life was unstructured and unconventional. His many accomplishments in life are a testament to his strong will and determination to become a good husband, father and man.
Jay attended middle and high schools in California but did not graduate. Later accomplishments included receiving his GED, Associates, Bachelors and Masters Degrees. His formal education and life path to success began at the age of 17 when the United States Air Force recognized his potential and accepted him for entry. His six year enlistment was the beginning of his professional career in law enforcement and criminal justice work. Later in life he was blessed to be called to serve Windsor Park Baptist Church as youth pastor. This work completed him as the man you are here today to remember and celebrate.
Jay was an enthusiastic traveler whose interests and curiosities took him to many parts of the world. He loved knowledge and could impress with facts about almost anyplace. He loved his state of Texas and was an avid historian of Lone Star State trivia.
Jay will long be remembered for his warmth and humor. He gleefully shared his vast repertoire of cringeworthy groaner jokes. How many times were you asked, 'How do you tell a dogwood tree?' 'By it's bark.' Ha!
Jay was never a vain man but he did take pride in his full head of lustrous shiny hair. Well, once upon a time anyway.
Nothing in Jay's life matched his love for his wife Mona. Recently celebrating their 43rd anniversary Jay was the man he was because of Mona. He was not complete without her at his side. Their life together was one of dedication and devotion to each other, their family, and to you, their cherished community of faith.
