Jerry Allen Edgin, 78. died November 13, 2019 in Dallas as a result of a head injury when he fell.
Jerry had a full life filled with friends and good deeds. From living with relatives kind enough to help him get through school and life’s difficulties when he was young, he was able to overcome many adversities to reach success in whatever he attempted later in life. Long work hours, self-study and determination contributed to the basics of an enriched life. He never stopped asking questions if it would give him a better understanding
Where ever Jerry was, whether it be in the neighborhood, a meeting or talking to a stranger, he took time to learn about that individual and the family. When he later met that person in a different setting, he recalled the children’s names (even the dog) and the person’s hobbies and achievements. Jerry was a people person whose presence was felt when he entered a room or spoke. People remembered him for his really long bad jokes, his attention and his interest in their lives. He found the little known facts that made each individual unique and special.
Growing up in Odessa, Texas where he attended school, Jerry learned work ethics, team work, and making do with no money. These traits helped him become a national vice-president for several insurance companies, top salesman in every business field he was associated with and a City of De Soto Councilman.
The love of traveling everywhere and following the life of foreign students who stayed with the family gave him an international flair with a bad French accent. Sharing his travel experience in his personnel blogs made other people feel as if they traveled with him. Fishing, traveling and spending time with his family was what he enjoyed most.
Jerry was survived by Dana Edgin, his wife of over 55 years, his son Dale, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday - November 20, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 310 Roaring Springs, DeSoto, TX 75115 with the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 A.M. (all on the same day) with Rev. Kevin Strempke, officiating.
