Joann Vogrin

November 15, 1936 — October 16, 2021

JoAnn Vogrin passed away suddenly Saturday, October 16, 2021, in Dallas, Texas, due to complications from heart disease and diabetes. She was born November 15, 1936 to Joseph and Anna Jata in Kansas City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, George Vogrin, in February of 1997. She was the youngest of six children, four brothers and one sister, all of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her four children and seven grandchildren: Paula Vogrin and husband John Tyler (son Mason), Andrea Mintzer and husband Rand (daughters Avery and Hayden), Lisa Barton and husband Raymond (daughter Emily), and Tim Vogrin (sons Aric and Anthony, daughter Ariel). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. JoAnn was a remarkable woman who loved her family above all else and enjoyed spending time with them as often as possible. She loved helping others, whether it was providing Christmas gifts and holiday meals for families in need or buying lunch for strangers she thought looked like they could use a good turn. Her generosity knew no bounds and she would go to any length to help others. She was a funny, compassionate soul and made a positive difference in the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to know her. She handled life’s challenges with grace and aplomb, taking obstacles in stride and forging on with a strength that never failed to amaze us. As she got older, she set a goal to try something new each year. Among her favorite adventures were riding the London Eye, seeing the European countryside from a hot air balloon, and ziplining down Freemont Street in Las Vegas to celebrate her 75th birthday. JoAnn was a fixture at St Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church where she attended mass for more than 50 years. She was active in the St. Elizabeth Mother’s Club, the Altar Guild, and other organizations associated with St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic School. After the death of her husband, she joined the Duncanville Women’s Club, serving in several leadership roles, making loads of new friends and enjoying club activities including luncheons, excursions, book club, Mahjong and volunteer work. She especially enjoyed game nights with lifelong friends and her family (some of her favorites were Bunco, Dominoes, Bridge, Hand & Foot, and 31). She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her light shined so brightly in so many lives – she will be missed more than she could ever imagine. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. There will be no viewing or visitation. A Rosary will be held at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 4015 South Hampton Rd., Dallas, TX 75224 on Monday - October 25, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will immediately follow the Rosary. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, 1500 S. Westmoreland Rd., DeSoto, TX.
