John Albert (Jack) Viola was born August 17, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA to Albert George and Anna Margaret Viola. He died September 3, 2024. Jack was raised in Kansas City, KS. He graduated in 1959 from Shawnee Mission High School. He attended the University of Kansas for two years and then left school to marry Janet Lange. They had two daughters, Juliet and Jill, and moved to Dallas, TX. Jack later continued his education by earning a degree in 1973 from Richland Community College. He then transferred to North Texas University and attended night classes. He was one course short from his BBA degree, but chose not to finish because he had already had a thriving business. Jack had several sales jobs before he purchased the Billy Goat Supply Co. In 1978. He changed the name to Viola Commercial Cleaning Supplies, Inc. He worked there 5 1/2 days a week until he retired in 2013. Jack's other favorite place to be was Midway Hills Christian Church. He joined in the late 60's and became a very active member. He was a deacon, elder, youth leader, committee chair, treasurer and member of the choir. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Janet, his sister Doris Martin and his daughter, Juliet. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann Viola. The were married March 1, 1980 creating a blended family with five children: daughter Jill and Stephen Hockett, daughter Sharon and Hal Yoh, son Mark and Melanie Crutcher, son Paul and Julia Crutcher, and son-in-law Jay Kniffen. He had eleven grandchildren: Robin Hocket, Steve Hockett, Rhys Crutcher, Natalie Crutcher, Thomas and wife Emily Crutcher, Caroline Crutcher, Matthew Crutcher, Madeline Yoh, Samantha Yoh and husband Bob Vierlinck, Catherine and Jimmy Schneider, and Kristen Yoh and husband Myles Aion. He was great-grandfather to Lucy and James Schneider and Maeve Aion-Yoh. A memorial Service is scheduled on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 11:00am at Midway Hills Christian Church, 11001 Midway Rd. Dallas, TX 75229. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Midway Hills Christian Church or to the Juliet Viola Kniffen Foundation, 309 Winfield Rd., Devon, PA 19333.
