John William Stubbs 10/4/1946 ~ 4/21/2022
The Lord called John William Stubbs home in a peaceful manner at Methodist Hospital in Mansfield, Texas, with close family and loved ones by his side on Thursday, April 21, 2022 in his 75th year. He passed away after an unexpected and brief battle with heart complications.
This funny, loving, caring and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by his children Steven Stubbs and Ashley Surtees, daughter-in-law Shannon Stubbs, his girlfriend and best friend of 12 ½ years Marie Jones, who will forever be family, his brother David Trout, sister Linda and brother-in-law Larry Fields, along with many others survived by him.
John was predeceased by his mother Evelyn Trout, his brother Robert Trout and his beloved Aunt Emma Johnson, to whom he was very close.
Family was the pivotal essence of John’s life. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, friend, father and grandfather to our family. He has been a major presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
He was a proud grandfather to Sophie Stubbs (age 24), Madeline Surtees (age 16) and Blake Dagenais (age 7).
John was born on October 4, 1946 in Dallas, Texas to Evelyn and Thomas Stubbs and grew up in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas. He shared the same mother and father with his older sister, Linda. In the early 1950’s, Evelyn remarried Coleman “Jiggs” Trout, then Robert and David joined as his additional siblings. As a child, John loved to socialize with family and friends, was an excellent student and always had big dreams of growing up to be successful. He was a proud Sunset Byson Alumni, graduating from Sunset High School in June of 1965.
As a very young man he learned to work hard and to take on his career path with pride and ambition. In his early professional life he was involved in Banking, with the majority of his career spent in the Automotive Industry, selling cars and building lifelong relationships along the way. He retired after many years of professional success in 2012.
John was a gentle, kind, loving and generous person…ask anyone who has been a part of his life and they would tell you the same. He had a clever (as well as crass at times) sense of humor, getting lots of joy out of making others laugh and have a great time. To be in his presence was to feel warmth and genuine happiness. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and walk away with a newfound friend. Because of all of these things, people were drawn to him – his friendships and connections seemed endless.
Some of John’s favorite past times included the game of golf and playing it whenever possible, bowling, tennis, stargazing, moonlit evenings, the outdoors, being near a body of water, sunsets, a well-manicured lawn, immaculately maintained vehicles, traveling and exploring new places, laughing and having fun, telling stories, dancing, being social with others at any given time or place, spending quality time with friends, family and loved ones, snuggling up on the couch for TV time, watching Football, Basketball and Baseball, cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks. He had a love for things that grow, especially flowers. He would attend the Texas State Fair every year, checking out the various exhibits and shows. He enjoyed visiting Casinos on occasion, playing slot machines and attending live entertainment shows. He played the Texas Lotto regularly, specifically the Dallas Cowboys Scratch Off games. If there was a prize drawing to enter, John would be putting his name in the hat. Throughout his lifetime, he was very blessed when it came to winning things. It was as if he was born under a lucky star.
Holy Bible Scripture, in memory of our Beloved John:
Philippians 4: 4-7
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
The family expresses appreciation to members of the staff at Methodist Hospital in Mansfield, Texas for their efforts made in the final days of his life.
