On October 2, 1923, during a snowstorm that delayed the doctor’s arrival for three days, Johnny Leonard Cartrite was born to Julius Arther and Ruby Cartrite of Sherman County, Texas. Johnny married the love of his life, Joy on April 5th, 1944. He helped on the family farm until he served in WWII, then graduated from Baylor University. Attended Southwestern Theological Seminary. While there he began serving the Lord as a pastor for many decades, then as a missionary church builder for the Baptist State Convention. He served well in all the places God called him to serve. His other talents included carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, welding, concrete work, poetry, artistry – as one of his grandkids put it, “give it to granddad-he can fix anything”. And so, he could! He was preceded in death by his father, Juluis Arthur and mother Ruby and his sister Elva Richards and brother, Wayne Cartrite, also an infant son, Gary Paul Cartrite. He has left a legacy, of 3 children, Lynn (Caron) Cartrite, Beth (Isaac) Thompson, Terry (Rhonda) , 7 grandkids, 20 great grandkids and 2 great, great grandkids! He was loved, respected, and honored and will be greatly missed by many. He loved Jesus, his wife Joy, his family and many, many friends. We will certainly miss hearing him pray – oh, how he could pray! Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Mission Dignity, the Gideons and Samaritan's Purse.
