June was born on February 16, 1923 to Emmett and Flora Champion and was the eldest of their three children. After graduating from Odessa High School she went to work at the Army Air Force base in Midland, Texas where she met a handsome Master Sergeant from Brooklyn, New York, Melvin Wexell. They married on February 17, 1945. When the war ended they went to Brooklyn, New York to live. June always sang in the choir. She retired from Bear, Sterns in 1983 where she had been the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Mergers and Acquisitions.
June and Melvin returned to Texas where they were founding members of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in DeSoto, TX. June was very active in the choir at Cross of Christ and volunteered many hours with the Lutheran Home Thrift Store and on the “Braille Team”.
She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin, on April 1st, 1996. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Richard Wayne and her beloved grandsons, Gregory, Ryan and Evan. There were the joy of her life and she made every effort to be a part of their lives.
The family would like to thank the staff at Alterrra in Cedar Hill for their loving care these last three years.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of DeSoto Choir.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009 until Services at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 310 Roaring Springs, DeSoto. Interment will follow at Little Bethel in Duncanville.
