Junell Pate Pogue, 92, of DeSoto went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Heartis Arlington Memory Care in Arlington, Texas.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, at Matthew Road Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. The funeral service will be held immediately following at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in DeSoto, Texas. Arrangements have been made by West-Hurtt Funeral Home in DeSoto, Texas.
Junell was born in Groesbeck, Texas, to Henry and Vada Pate on May 17, 1929, and she was the oldest of their five daughters. In high school, her family moved to Lancaster, Texas, where she attended Lancaster High School (graduated as Valedictorian) and met the love of her life, Gerald Pogue. They married on September 30, 1948 in Lancaster, Texas. Junell attended Draughan’s Business College in Dallas, as well as Mountain View College and Commercial College, Inc. to receive her real estate certification. She was DeSoto’s first city secretary and the tax assessor/collector from 1957-1965. From 1965-1980, Junell worked for the DeSoto Independent School District as the Tax Assessor/Collector where DeSoto had one of the best percentages in the DFW area with a 98 percent collection rate (1977). Her final career was with the Dallas County Appraisal District where she worked as the Exemptions’ Coordinator from 1980 until she retired. Junell was a certified Texas Assessor, a registered professional assessor, and possessed her Texas real estate salesman license. She was an active member of Hampton Road Baptist Church for decades. She was a member of many organizations including the Texas Association of Assessing Officers’ North Chapter, the Texas School Assessors Association, theTexas Real Estate Salesman License Industrial Team Committee, the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce, and the American Business Women’s Association. There are many words to describe this incredible lady who lived a life of serving the Lord and pointing others to him. Family and friends have described Junell as sweet, thoughtful, loyal, kind, intelligent, prayer warrior, loving, and a wonderful baker. She opened her heart and home to everyone.
Junell is preceded in death by her adoring husband Gerald Pogue, parents Henry & Vada Pate, in-laws Ruby & Ash Pogue, sister Jean Smith, brother-in-laws, Eddie Patton & Raymond Goforth, and great grand pup Tuscany.
She is survived by her daughter Debbie Robinson & her husband Terry Robinson. grandson Gerald Robinson, granddaughter Mariann Burris & her husband Keith Burris and their children Seth & Ellie Burris, plus great grand pup Tex
