Kathryn "Kathy" Joan Goad

November 7, 1951 — July 8, 2022

Kathryn “Kathy” Goad, passed away peacefully on July 8th in DeSoto, Texas. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Kathy was born to Richard and Vivian Luckert in Carrier, OK on November 7, 1951. Kathy married her best friend, Larry Goad, on August 28, 1976. Together they had 46 marvelous years of marriage and three daughters: Rachel, Sarah, and Mary. Kathy was preceded in death by her father Richard Luckert and her sister Carol Garlow. She is survived by her husband Larry Goad, her mother Vivian Luckert, brother John Luckert as well as her daughters Rachel and husband Steve, Sarah and husband Jay, Mary and husband Travis. She has 10 grandchildren: Hannah, Luke, Elizabeth, Jeret, Faith, Ellie, Jackson, Lillian, Tate and Baby Gafford. In addition she has many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She graduated from Carrier High School in Oklahoma and then received her undergraduate from Bethany Nazarene College. After college, Kathy worked for OG&E as a home economist in Shawnee, OK for 7 years. Later, she obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of North Texas. Kathy worked in education for over 40 years. She taught home-economics, instilling her love of cooking and homemaking into her students. She also coordinated and led the “Peer Assistance and Leadership” (PAL) program at DeSoto High School where she helped her students mentor and nurture young children across the district. Once she retired from the classroom, she became the Director of “Where I Now Gain Success” (WINGS), ensuring that teenagers and young adults within the Metroplex received a high school diploma. She then continued to serve the community, teachers, and students as a Trustee on the Desoto ISD School Board for six years. Throughout her years of service she received countless awards the most notable are Teacher of the Year for DISD and DeSoto ISD Hall of Honor Distinguished Service Award. She was an active member of Hampton Road Baptist Church for 37 years, serving on many committees and as a Sunday School Teacher. She loved her church and worshiping her Lord and Savior. She also served as a volunteer for such organizations as Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, Hearts and Hammers, Rotary and Lions Club. Of all of her accomplishments her favorite title to carry was “Grammie.” She loved each one of her grandchildren, and they loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday - July 16, 2022 at Hampton Road Baptist Church, 400 N. Hampton Rd., DeSoto, TX with Rev. Kelly L. Wolverton and Dr. Jerry R. Raines, officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation prior and interment will be private. Memorials are encouraged to the Hampton Road Children's Ministry or Coaches Outreach at www.coachesoutreach.org
