Leon Elson “Jack” Averitt, 87, of Dallas, Texas, went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2012. He passed away peacefully at his retirement residence in the company of his family.
He was born May 19, 1924, in Paducah, Texas, the son of late Mary Ann and Carroll Averitt. He was the youngest of 13 siblings. On January, 1943 he married Mildred Ann in Dallas, TX, who preceeded him in death.
He graduated from Forney High School and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. After his discharge he was employed by Sewell Dealership and sold automobiles for over 40 years, retiring in 1979. He was passionate about helping others and a loyal supporter of Scottish Rite and other charitable organizations. Mr. Averitt was a member of Shriners International and a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years.
He is survived by his son Jack Averitt; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and John Lopez; grandchildren, John and Cheryl Lenheiser of Flower Mound; Michael Lenheiser of Forth Worth; and great-grandchildren Parker, Josh, and Ryan. There will be no viewing or visitation.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 3:30 P.M. in Hillcrest Memorial Park, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX 75225 with Sr. Chaplain Brian Quinn, officiating. A reception in celebration of Mr. Averitt’s life will follow at El Fenix Restaurant, 6811 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX 75225.
