Louise Alsworth Coleman Munroe, 101, Retired School Administrator, of Dallas, TX passed away on March 08, 2017. Preceded in death by her husband: Hubert W. Munroe, son: Rev. Dr. Robert “Bobby” Coleman, her parents, sisters: Bessie Mary Allen and Ora Menefee and brother: W.C. "Dub" Miller. Louise was born in Brownwood, TX January 04, 1916. Her family moved to Dallas in 1918. The family had a big celebration January 04, 2016 for her 100th birthday. Since the age of 6 she has been a member of the Christian Church (Disciple of Christ). She has served as Sunday School Teacher, Youth Sponsor, Chairperson of various committees, President of the Christian Woman’s Fellowship, Deacon and Elder Emeritus. Louise grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Sunset High School in 1933. She received her BA and MA degrees from SMU. Member of Pi Phi Sorority and Delta Kappa Gama an international honorary organization for women teachers. She became the Physical Education and Health Teacher at Winnetka Elementary School in Oak Cliff in 1939 and in 1949 she moved to Greiner Jr. High as the Gym Teacher. While at Greiner she organized the first Jr. High School female drill team named the Jackateers. Louise then became the Principal of T.G. Terry Elementary School in 1957 until she retired in 1973 after teaching 34 years. Mrs. Munroe began her art career and was affectionately called the “Bluebonnet Lady”, the “Christmas Tree Lady” and “Santa Claus Lady” by her fellow workers at the Church Bazaar. For the past 32 years she has devoted thousands of hours working on projects to be sold at the Northway Christian Church Bazaar. She was quite an artist in her own right and has distinguished herself as a painter of bluebonnets. Survived by son: Ronald “Ronny” Coleman & wife Rita; daughter in law: Maida Coleman; step daughters: Marilyn Munroe Hurtt & husband Michael Hurtt and Karen Munroe Pafford & husband Dr. Dick Pafford; step daughter in law: Sara J. Munroe; grandchildren: Cindy & Andy Lewis, Laura Mills, Jim & Cindy Coleman, Judy & Danny Florence, Chuck & Lesia Flynn, Cynthia Flynn, Melanie & Mark Crutcher; great grandchildren: Nicholas & Christopher Lewis, Stewart, Conner & Alex Mills, Kyle & Kristen Coleman, A.J. & Bailey Florence, Claire Irwin, Valerie Flynn, Rhys & Natalie Crutcher and Clay, Chad & Casey Childs; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many dear friends. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday – March 25, 2017 at Presbyterian Village North, in the Monie Chapel, 8600 Skyline Dr., Dallas, TX 75243 214-355-9001.Louise will be buried with her family at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
