Lowell Preston Sims was the second of five children born to Fordyce and Hester Sims in Cedar Hill, Texas on January 1, 1930. His father was a farmer and Post Master for the city of Cedar Hill and his mother worked as a homemaker, took in laundry from locals, and cared for, as needed, 12 grandchildren until they were school age over a 25 year period. Lowell graduated from Cedar Hill High School where he lettered in football and basketball. Lowell was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict and served as a Sergeant in Germany and Japan from February 1951 to February 1953, whereupon he was honorably discharged. Lowell and Mary Lou Brown met at Cedar Hill Church of the Nazarene shortly after his discharge and were married April 10, 1954. They were blessed with two sons, Preston Lynn Sims in July 1955 and Mark Lowell Sims in March 1958. A few years later, they moved from Oak Cliff to the home on Short Street in Cedar Hill which Mary maintains today. Lowell worked as a warehouse manager until his retirement from Western Electric/Lucent Technology after 25 years of service, served as a bus driver for Cedar Hill School District until his retirement after 10 years, and worked part time for Dallas First Church of the Nazarene/Canterbury School in DeSoto until he was 70 years old. Lowell was a doting husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather and great-grandfather affectionately known as Lo-Lo. He was proud to be a member of Dallas First Church of the Nazarene for over 55 years and a friend and servant to anyone God put in his life. He passed quietly in his sleep from this world on December 16, 2015 due to complications from Parkinson's Disease and is currently serving as door greeter at the pearly gates of Saint Peter.
Lowell is preceded in death by both parents, his older brother, Fordyce (Fordy) and his baby sister Sarah. He is survived by two younger brothers, Judge Thomas (JT) Sims and wife Carlene, Jerry Sims and wife Carol; his wife of 61 years Mary; sons P. Lynn Sims and wife Tommye, and Mark L. Sims and wife Debra; grandchildren Jeremiah Sims, wife Amber, their children Levi and Everitt; Jason Sims, wife Katie, their children Ellie, Kensington, and Kade; and Jordan Davis, husband Matthew and their children Aiden and Carson.
