Margaret Jo Nelson, born January 5, 1935 in Dallas, Tx to W. R.(Bob) and Nina Pauline (Polly) Smith, went to be with her Lord July 23, 2009, after a lengthy illness of Cardio-pulmonary disease. She was the apple of her father's eye. She attended Adamson High School, was a Leopardette and graduated in January 1952. Jo met the love of her life Sammy Dan Nelson in High School and they married May 9, 1952. Soon after Sammie Jo Nelson was born and and three years later Frank Jeffrey Nelson was born. "Jo" was first and foremost a most loving and devoted person who cared for people and all gods creatures. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Polly, her husband Sammy and most recently by her dog Me Ling. She is survived by daughter Sammie Jo Nelson and her companion Doug Deaton, and Jeff Nelson and his wife Debbie, brother R. G. (Jerry) Smith and wife Betty, grandchildren Tiffany Floyd Prado, Rachael Lawrence, Jeffrey Nelson, Jr, and Lauren Michelle Nelson and their spouses. She was so proud of her five great grandchildren. Jo was a loving and devoted wife to Sammy who was a successful Insurance executive and Banker and breeder of Appaloosa horses. She supported him and encouraged him in all his endeavors and their successes. Jo and Sam were best friends and an example and inspiration to their family and friends, of devotion. Family were always first to them. Jo was a daughter, sister, girlfriend to Sammy, twirler, dancer, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, dearest friend and artist.
Jo had many friends who loved and supported her especially after Sammy's passing in 1999, especially Ray and Nelda Easley. She always mentioned how blessed she was to have the special neighbors who loved and cared for her. Jo, momma, grandmom, auntie and Mrs. Jo, will be greatly missed. We all loved her very much.
