Margaret Belle-Mckinney Rowe

d. November 1, 2011

"Dodie," passed away in San Diego, California on August 1, 2011 after a long struggle with Parkinson's. She was cremated per her wishes. Her life began in Dallas on July 13, 1916. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally Rowe Morris in 2002. Dodie’s earthly remains are coming home for a ceremony to celebrate her life and honor her death. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 12th at the Wheatland United Methodist Church, 8000 S. Hampton Rd., Dallas, TX 75232, her cherished church home for most of her life. Dodie is survived by her son, Allen, her son-in-law John A. Morris, her three grandson's, Anton Rowe, Brenden Rowe, and Joseph Morgan Rowe Morris, her granddaughter Sophie Rowe and her great granddaughters Bria and Katie Rowe. Contributions may be made to the Wheatland Church Building Fund in her name. Through her work and her values, Margaret Belle McKinney Rowe, “Dodie,” was one of those amazing people who made our nation what it is. She valued family, friendship, honesty, hard work, and faith. She was strong in adversity, of which she encountered and overcame much from her youngest days. She was committed to active participation in the political and democratic process that has ensured over the centuries the freedoms we cherish in this country. She was a native of Dallas, a Southern Belle and a true Texan. She taught her son and daughter to respect their elders, be polite, not talk with their mouths full, and respect "the King's English," among other virtues less in vogue today. “Maggie Belle” loved beauty in all its forms. She especially loved the beauty of great literature and art. She loved watching clouds and imagining the images they portrayed: bears, changing to dragons for those of us left behind. She was a super diligent mother and an exceptionally faithful friend. She was an astute business woman. In her day she could match wits and success with any man, overcoming the bias prevalent at the time with poise and dignity and sometimes a dash of green-eyed Irish temper of which she held a ready reserve. In the end Mother lost her patient and dignified battle with Parkinson’s. But that loss, although painful, was really just eternity’s gain. I like to think of her now immersed in Jesus restoring love, healing all wounds and erasing all memories of suffering. In tribute to our "Dodie", we would like to set up a place where friends and family can post their thank yous, memories, and pictures to honor her exceptional life and preserve her memory for those left behind.
