María Eugenia Lascurain Rangel de Ogburn March 16, 1940 – December 7, 2024 María Eugenia Lascurain Rangel de Ogburn, also known as Gene Ogburn, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 84 surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 16, 1940, in Mexico City to Carlos Alberto Lascurain y Zulueta and María Leonor Rangel de Lascurain. María Eugenia was raised in the beautiful city of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. María Eugenia grew up in a vibrant household as one of eight siblings: Leonor, Gene, Carlos, Rocío, Julieta, Bernal, Vicky, and Maité. Her father was a prominent leader and served as the mayor of Xalapa, and it was during one of his hosted events that María Eugenia met an American graduate student, Gordon Floyd Wynn, from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. They married on September 17, 1961, and her new adventures began. Shortly after their wedding, María Eugenia moved to Liberia, in western Africa, where her husband worked as the General Manager of The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. She embraced her new life with grace and courage, learning English from a large Dutch expatriate community and developing her distinct accent that reflected her global experiences. The couple later relocated to Georgia in the United States, where they began a new chapter of their lives raising their three children, Floyd Jr., Erle, and Anna Laura. María Eugenia was an exceptional mother, fostering her children’s curiosity, adventurous spirit, and love for learning. After 15 years of marriage, she was widowed at the young age of 35 after the unexpected passing of her first husband but persevered with incredible strength and resilience, ensuring her children were well cared for. A few years later, María Eugenia married Otis Hartley Ogburn, who became a devoted partner and father to her children. Together, they created a life full of adventure and cultural exploration. Their family lived in Germany for five years, traveling extensively throughout Europe, where María Eugenia shared her passion for music, art, and history. During their retirement years, María Eugenia moved to Texas with Otis to be closer to extended family. She was immensely proud of her children and adored her grandchildren: Ryan, Hayley, Anna Caroline, Sofia, Estella, and Scout. She shared a unique and special relationship with each of them, bringing them joy, wisdom, and boundless affection. After Otis’s passing in 2023, María Eugenia moved to Fort Worth, Texas where she embraced a new phase in her life, deepening old friendships and creating new ones. She spent her days surrounded by her dear family and friends, and the splendor of the world she so cherished. María Eugenia’s warmth and charm allowed her to forge lifelong friendships wherever she went. Her ability to connect with others was her greatest gift. Her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life. As a devoted Episcopalian, María Eugenia was an active parishioner in her church, St. Anne Episcopal Church, where she will be laid to rest. She will be remembered for her zest for life, her adventurous spirit, her love for music, art, and her ability to create beauty in every corner of the world she touched. She is survived by her three children, their spouses, her six grandchildren, her beloved siblings, their spouses and numerous nieces & nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Carlos and Leonor, her first husband, Floyd and her second husband, Otis. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. to honor María Eugenia’s life at St. Anne Episcopal Church, 1700 N. Westmoreland Rd., DeSoto, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Anne Episcopal Church. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace and surrounded by the magnificent legacy of the life she loved so much.
