Mary Elizabeth Reed

Mary Elizabeth Reed, our loving Mother, Grandma and Great-Grandma, age 97, is now united with her Lord and Savior, passing away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 4, 2024.   Elizabeth married her sweetheart, the love of her life, Charles William Reed, on July 3, 1947 after a three-month courtship.  They were devotedly married for 70 years.   Elizabeth’s strong and abiding faith in God was exemplified through her life which served as an example of joyful living for her family and friends.  Throughout the years, Elizabeth enjoyed serving with the United Methodist Women and was a faithful member at First United Methodist Church in DeSoto since 1966.  Elizabeth was enthusiastically involved in genealogical research and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of 1812, and Austin’s Old 300.  Elizabeth’s family was her greatest joy. She devoted her life to blessing them with encouragement, creating memories and family traditions that will be cherished forever. Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered for her joyful heart and faithfulness.

Elizabeth Reed is survived by her daughter Donna Beth Hays and husband Danny, daughter Carolyn Suzanne Bowen, daughter Mary Denise Armstrong and husband Larry; grandchildren Hannah McMillan and husband Scott, J.D. Hays, Lindsay Armstrong, Whitney McIntosh and husband Joseph, and Collin Armstrong; and great-grandchildren Liam, Reed, and Daniella McMillan; Charles, Carson, and Clayton McIntosh. She is also survived by her sister Coleen Fischer and husband Russ, sister-in-law Emma Daisy Logan and husband Jimmy, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband Charles William Reed, parents William Claud Quirl and Mary Lois Forehand Quirl, brother W.C. Quirl, Jr. and wife Viola; brother-in-law Porter Allen Reed and wife Betty; son-in-law Robert Bowen.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday - March 12, 2024 at the West/Hurtt Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday - March 13, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, 310 Roaring Springs, DeSoto, TX.

Interment will follow in the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, TX.
