Mary Jacqueline "Jackie" Smith

"Jackie" Mary Jacqueline Smith passed away peacefully on September 18, 2022, at Arabella of Red Oak Senior Living. She lived 94 years. Born on July 20,1928 in Tioga, Texas to Lena and Ernest Dean. She lived in Dallas where she met and married the love of her life, Eugene Edward (Gene) Smith in June of 1948 and they had three children. They were married 48 years until his passing in 1997, The family moved to DeSoto in 1953 where she lived and raised her children. She moved from that home into Arabella of Red Oak in February of 2022. Jackie was a homemaker most all her married years. In her younger years, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and caring for her husband, children and home. She loved her children dearly and devoted herself to her family. She provided and cared for them whenever she was needed. She would pick up her children’s friends, drop them off and always said “yes” when stranded kids would ask her if she could take them home, making sure everyone got to and from events safely. She enjoyed holidays and getting together with family members. She was caretaker for her mother and husband during their illnesses until their passing. She was a loving daughter, wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Preceded in death by: Husband: Gene Smith Parents: Lena Dean, Ernest Dean Sister: Melba Jo Spears Survived by her children: Sandra Tidwell, Gary Smith, and Lisa Philp Daughter in Law: Sandra Smith Sons in Law: Don Tidwell and Ivan Philp Grandchildren: Justin Smith, Garrett Smith, Krista Boyd, Tim Thornton, Jacqueline Alexander Great Grandchildren: Dallas Smith, Delilah Boyd, Benjamin Colt Smith Many nieces, nephews, and cousins You were loved and will be missed. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Friday - September 30, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at which time the Funeral Service will begin. Interment will follow in Laurel Land Memorial Park, Dallas, TX.
