Marylyn America Edwards

August 23, 1919 — January 9, 2018

98, of DeSoto, TX passed away on January 09, 2018.

Marylyn America Edwards, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away on January 9, 2018, at the age of 98. Born in Dallas on August 23, 1919, to John H. Johnson and Alabama Sample Johnson, she was the youngest of three children, with two older brothers, Cline and Ronald. In elementary school, Marylyn was voted Queen and proudly posed with her crown beside a new Model T Ford. As athletic as she was beautiful, Marylyn lettered in four sports in high school and graduated from Sunset High School before obtaining her real estate license from Mountain View College. She married Wilson Edwards and together they had three sons, WT and Wayne (both of blessed memory) and Winston (age 77). After her husband passed away in 1973, Marylyn began to travel worldwide with the encouragement of her son, Winston. She visited the Great Wall of China and walked across the Panama Canal on the Bridge of the Americas. Marylyn even had the opportunity to spend the night in the Panamanian Presidential Palace, an experience she found amazing! She and Winston traveled extensively in the United States, and Marylyn walked across the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado at the age of 90! Another hobby involved her love of dolls and she had more than 1,000 in her collection. Always impeccably dressed with a flair for fashion, her shoes and jewelry always matched her outfit. Marylyn never left the house without her hair, nails and makeup perfectly done.  She will be remembered for her sense of adventure and zest for life. She always found the good in everyone -- even going so far as regularly placing flowers on Clyde Barrow’s grave, because, as she said, "Everyone deserves flowers."  The love she had for her family and friends was immeasurable. She happily attended many years of athletic activities, theater performances and dance shows throughout the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marylyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband and sons WT and Wayne. She is survived by her loving son, Winston (Susanna), and her precious grandchildren (3), great-grandchildren (10) and great-great grandchildren (5). Her twinkling eyes accompanied with a kind word, will be greatly missed. Anyone that had met her loved her!

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Friday - January 19, 2018 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at which time the Funeral Service will begin (all on the same day) with Rev. Larry Williams, officiating.

Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery, Dallas, TX.
