It is with deep sadness that we announce Mike Valdez passed away peacefully in his home on July 27, 2024 at the age of 76. Mike was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many loved ones he considered family. Mike is survived by his devoted children: Veronica Valdez (Husband, Marcos Trevino), Monica Valdez (Husband, Jesse Valdez), and Son, Franco Valdez; His 8 Grandchildren: Giovanni, Liam, Lucas, Ellie, Diego, Speshal, Yishai & Bella; His Godchildren; His siblings: Gladys Valdez (Sister) & Frank Montoya (Brother-in-law); Martha Edith and the Valladares Family & many others who loved him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years, Aura Elizabeth Valdez, who he now joins in Heaven. Mike was a wise man known for his one-of-a-kind sense of humor, big heart, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to his family and those he loved. In 1969, at the age of 20, Mike immigrated from Argentina to New York City with very little resources. Facing the challenges of unfamiliar surroundings, and limited financial means, he worked various jobs that led to finding his calling in the service industry. Many of his friendships that spanned decades began in New York. He often told stories of evenings spent with iconic figures rolling cigars, playing poker, or dancing the night away. In New York, he also met the love of his life Elizabeth. She and her cousin Janet frequented a bistro he managed until he eventually asked to take her out. They enjoyed picnics in the park, spending time at Coney Island, and the New York City nightlife with extended family. They later settled and made a beautiful life together in Texas with their three children, Veronica, Monica, and Franco. Mike was a veteran of the Palm Restaurant where he worked, met, and befriended many wonderful people. He was a natural at forming meaningful connections with his customers who became his close friends throughout the years. He was devoted to his Palm family and worked at the restaurant for over 30 years until it closed its doors in 2017. He happily spent his retirement years enjoying his grandchildren, making home improvements, and grilling Argentinean asados. He loved to spend time watching Argentinean soccer and sharing life stories with friends. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, and we will share those details once they are scheduled. We are also collecting messages, stories, and photos from those who knew him. If you would like to contribute, please send them to: lookinggoodmikev@gmail.com. Our father was a generous supporter of St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
