Nancy N. Rannels, 83, of Desoto, TX died on April 05, 2011 at the home of her daughter. Born in Lancaster, PA, Nancy was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Almeda Nixdorf. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Herman W. Rannels, in 1996.
Mrs. Rannels graduated from Saint Joseph's Hospital in 1948 with her R.N. Diploma. In 1953 she graduated from Millersville's State Teachers College with a B.S. to act as a public school nurse. Over the years she held various medical auxiliary positions in California and Williamsport, PA. She also enjoyed caring for the standard collies of their AKC breeding kennel – Indian Run Kennels. She was baptized and a member of the First Reformed Church of the United Church of Christ located in Lancaster, PA. she attended Hillcrest Baptist Church while living in Desoto, Texas.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Gail R. Harlin, wife of Danny R. Harlin of Desoto, TX, and son, Herman (Randy) W. Rannels II, husband of Linda M. Rannels of Lancaster, PA and four grandchildren: Amelia Greever, Gregory Harlin, Elizabeth Rannels, and Jacob Rannels and one great-grandchild. Additionally, her sister-in-law, Gloria Nixdorf of Conestoga Ave., PA, and nieces and nephews survive her. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Roscoe and Jere Nixdorf.
The family of Nancy wishes to thank HomeInstead Senior Care of Pa. and Desoto, Texas for their loving and supportive care for the past five years and particularly the past four months.
Lighted Pathways Hospice is also greatly appreciated for all of their guidance and care of Nancy and family for the past year.

Lancaster Family and friends are invited to attend Nancy's Memorial Service at Hempfield Church of the Brethren, 1186 Stevens St., Manheim, PA 17545 on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will begin an hour earlier at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nancy's name may be made to Lighted Pathways Hospice, P.O.
