Nancy Helen Taylor of DeSoto, Texas, 87, died February 12, 2017. Nancy was born in Dallas, January 29, 1930 to Lawrence Russell Taylor, Sr. and Zuleme Howard Taylor. Except for a brief time in Indianapolis where she was graduated from Shortridge High School, Nancy was a life-long Dallas resident. Her work career spanned 35-years of dedicated association with Payne & Company where she was the showroom floor manager, merchandising specialty fabric selections to interior designers having a flair for bold colors. Nancy had a rare personality with a gift of lighting up any room and making family and friends feel very special. She embraced life enjoying animals, fishing, bowling, numerous motor home adventures throughout the good ‘ole U.S.A., and margaritas at Ojeda’s. Nancy was beginning to transition to life on the farm before a stroke in 2015. She will be greatly missed by many, including Nancy Jane Thomas, her friend of 60 years who is appreciated and admired for her devoted and loving care. Nancy adopted the Thomas family as her extended “second family” including Nancy Jane’s brother, Jack Thomas, nephew, Richard Thomas, niece, Susan Thomas, and great-nephew and godson, Kevin Scott, his wife, Hollie Scott, and their children, Karlie and Keri. She was a favorite and the very fun aunt of Bradley Taylor of Rockwall, Texas, Cynthia Oates of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Lisa Jenkins of Lafayette, Louisiana. They survive her with their spouses, Teresa Taylor, William Oates and David Jenkins, and seven great-nieces and nephews: Leanne Oates Vanecek, Elizabeth Oates Orr, Andrea Zacharias, Austin Gunter, Kara Jenkins Borrett, Taylor Jenkins, Tiffiny Jenkins, and eight great-great nieces and nephews. Her cousin, Johnny Glenn of Tyler and her sister-in-law, Kay Taylor of Dallas, also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved brother Lawrence R. Taylor, Jr., sister-in-law, Lee Taylor, and her dear friend, Dottie Barfield. The families will receive friends in the West/Hurtt Funeral Home Chapel, 217 S. Hampton, DeSoto, TX on Monday - February 20, 2017 beginning at 1:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 P.M with Rev. Tom Tickner, officiating. Interment will follow in Little Bethel Memorial Park, Duncanville, TX. In lieu of flowers, the families request memorials be given to the American Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231, www.strokeassociation.org/STROKEORG/, or donor’s charity of choice.
