Mrs. Pat Gill passed away Sept. 28, 2009 surrounded by family after a valiant battle against a chronic illness. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Eccentric about her age, she was born on the longest day of the year in Plainview, Texas, in 1929 or 1933, depending on who you ask. She grew up in the Panhandle, moved to Dallas and graduated from Dallas Technical High School. After settling in Duncanville, she and her second husband, J. Russell Gill, owned Gill Service Co. for more than 25 years and she managed Wheatland Cemetery for even longer. She was a favorite of genealogists and historians, as she researched records for family tree searches. When her children were young, she was an active supporter of Duncanville and Christway Academy school activities. Her passions included Texas A&M football, soaps, crossword puzzles and her dogs. The last two, Bear and Coco, were rescued from a vicious dog attack, and are members of the family. Russell recently preceded her in death. She is survived by son, Robert Wallace III, and daughters, Janie Santos, Patsy Camarillo and her husband Frank, Sandra Esmond, Cynthia Gill and Gina Gill; a brother and sister, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nephews and nieces. No one was a stranger to her. The family will receive friends at West/Hurtt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 30 with Graveside Service at Little Bethel Memorial Park, 1803 S. Cedar Hill Road, Duncanville at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tri-City Animal Shelter, 1150 E. Pleasant Run Rd, Cedar Hill, TX 75104.
