Patricia Margaret O’Nan Dryer was born in Carrollton, Kentucky on April 24, 1929, and died peacefully at home, surrounded by her four children, on Saturday, March 21, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, William Eugene Dryer, her brother William Roud O’Nan, and her parents Thomas Roud O’Nan and Emily Margaret Lester O’Nan.
She is survived by her four children, son Paul S. Dryer and wife Lisa of DeSoto, and her three daughters, Joyce E. Kelly of Dallas, Sarah E. Welch and husband John of Richardson, and Anne E. Regan and husband Peter of Dallas; seven grandchildren: Susan M. Hernandez of Dallas, William J. Hernandez and wife Jessica (who is expecting their first child in July) of Dallas, Allison N. Barger and husband Andy of Austin, Katlyn M Dryer and fiancé Austin Walker of Dallas, Haley M. Welch of Richardson, Natalie C. Regan of Dallas, Kevin J. Regan of Dallas; and two great grandchildren, Brooks P. Barger and Eliza K. Barger of Austin. She is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews in Kentucky and Texas.
Pat attended school in Lexington, Kentucky, and graduated from Lafayette Senior High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Upon graduation, she moved to Louisville where she met her future husband, William (Bill). They were married in 1954. They were blessed with four children and eventually settled in DeSoto, Texas in 1966. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and had many dear friends in DeSoto.
Pat served as an emergency room nurse, a pediatric nurse, and a school nurse. She became the local go-to nurse for neighborhood emergencies. She also taught Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church of DeSoto. She was a Girl Scout troop leader. Known to her grandchildren as GanGan, she loved nurturing children more than anything, and always thought kids should be kids, roaming and exploring the great outdoors. Family gatherings and holidays were her favorites. Her hobbies included playing cards every Saturday with her family, watching sports on television (Kentucky basketball!), singing hymns, and reading, especially her Bible. Pat was a faithful and devoted wife and exemplary mother. She had a funny and very mischievous sense of humor. We loved her and our time together. She will be deeply missed and remembered always. Patricia loved our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Extra special thanks go out to her caregivers Chris Jones, Lisa Soto, Shequetta Greer, and Nancy Plemens, for their many years of loyalty and love for our mother.
We would also like to thank Kelly Shaw of Pathway Hospice, an angel in disguise.
Patricia Dryer will be laid to rest in a small private family ceremony at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville, Texas, on Friday, April 10, 2020. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Dallas/Fort Worth Toys for Tots (our Marine daddy would love this too):
