Phyllis “Dian” Hopkins, 82, of Coppell, TX, was born on April 21, 1942, in Tyler, TX, to Mabel Hearon and R. Woodland. She spent her early childhood in Tyler and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School.
Dian met the love of her life, Ed, at the Silvils Drive-In, and they shared a wonderful 59 years of marriage. In 1972, they relocated to DeSoto, TX, where they raised their two daughters and formed lasting friendships.
Throughout her career, Dian worked in the mortgage industry and as a personal assistant, but her most cherished role was being a devoted mother. A true night owl, she was always ready for a late-night toilet paper run or to host small gatherings for her daughters’ friends. Everyone who entered her home felt welcome, and many affectionately called her "Mrs. Hop" or "Mrs. H." She had an open heart and sweet treats for every child, treating each one as if they were her own.
Dian was known for her immaculate home, always adorned like the cover of a magazine, and she never went without a fresh manicure and pedicure. Beneath her polished exterior lay a wealth of unspoken talents, including extensive training in ballet, remarkable artistic abilities, and a fascination with murder mysteries, K-Pop group BTS, and Asian cinema. She had a particular love for the moon, regularly calling her grandchildren to remind them to watch the eclipses and keep their “money bags” open during full moons.
Her warmth, kindness, and attentive listening made her beloved to all who knew her. Dian cherished her newfound friends at St. Joseph's and held her lifelong friends close to her heart.
Dian took immense pride in her daughters, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Known as "Nana," she hosted delightful sleepovers filled with junk food, treated them to shopping sprees, enjoyed special lunches with them, sent encouraging texts, and tirelessly cheered them on at their soccer and baseball games. It was a guarantee that at every baseball game, Nana would enthusiastically yell, “Hit the fence!”
Dian is survived by her eldest daughter, Andi Hopkins Pafford, of Coppell, and her family, including son-in-law Brian, grandson Reed, and granddaughter Claire; her youngest daughter, Amber Hopkins Barron, of Trophy Club, and her family, including son-in-law Adam and three grandsons, Aeden, Ashton, and Asher; nieces Sherry Tyler and Kristi Hosea; nephew Kevin Hopkins and their families.
Dian’s life will be celebrated by those who loved her, remembering the countless moments of joy she brought into their lives. Her family will miss her laughter, her unwavering support, and the special way she made each person feel valued and loved. In honor of her legacy, they encourage everyone to cherish their family connections and embrace every moment of joy – just as Dian did.
