Raymund Maynard Saunders was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 21, 1948 to Sophia and William Saunders and passed away on September 24, 2020. Ray, as he was known to his friends and family, had two brothers that also preceded him in death: Artie and Elbert. A graduate of Edison High School at the age of sixteen, Ray would go on to Temple University where he earned two Masters Degrees before embarking upon a teaching career which would span four decades and touched thousands of lives. Starting in 1971, Ray taught children and adults in his hometown of Philadelphia until moving to Dallas, TX in 1989 where he continued to broaden young minds for Dallas ISD as a teacher and trainer up until his retirement in 2013. Ray is survived by his wife of almost 48 years Patsy, sister Delores, son Barry, daughter Dana, daughter in law Angela, two grandchildren Daniel and Jazmine, three godsons Brian, Devon and Corbin, three nephews, lifelong friends "Warren" Henry, Victor and Tyrone plus the lives and hearts of the children he taught. FOLLOWING ALL COVID-19 GUIDELINES The family will gather to visit with friends in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Saturday - October 17, 2020 from 10:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. with the Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 A.M. (all on the same day) with Dorothy Pierce, officiating. Interment will be private. One of Ray's favorite poems to recite to Patsy was How Do I Love Thee ? (Sonnet 43) How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of being and ideal grace. I love thee to the level of every day's Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light. I love thee freely, as men strive for right. I love thee purely, as they turn from praise. I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose with my lost saints. I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.
