73, U S Air Force Veteran, of DeSoto, TX passed away on January 16, 2021 after a brief illness. Roger B. Kerby, Jr. AKA “R.B.” was a simple man with a huge, loving and forgiving heart. There was nothing you could tell him that would create judgment from him. He loved his family beyond measure, his country, and was extremely proud of his service he gave to our country in the Air Force. However, the pride he had for his grandson’s Hunter (Marine Corps) and Dalton (U.S. Army) and their enlistments may have eclipsed his own. He never met a stranger without a smile on his face and a kind word, and if you knew R.B., you know he had lots of words to share. He was well read and his knowledge of the most obscure subjects, was at times, baffling. He loved British comedy, aviation, air shows, U.S. History, NASCAR, firearms and Garth Brooks, but not necessarily in that order. R.B. married Velna Bishop, the love of his life, into that union she brought 3 daughters whom he later adopted as his own. They were happy and proud to have the “Kerby” name and the remarkable, large and loving family that embraced them. His love of family and family get-togethers were so very important to him, hence the isolation of 2020 was especially hard on him. Preceded in death: Wife Velna Kerby, parents Roger B. Kerby, Sr., Etta Mae Pate Kerby Brother: James Lee Kerby. Survivors include: Brothers Thomas W. Kerby (Margaret) Larry D. Kerby (Penny) Sister Linda Kerby (Elbert) Daughters: Lorie Bevill Duncan (William), Michelle Kerby and Sabrina Thomasson (Kevin) Grandchildren: Lauren Edwards (Matthew), Nicole Kerby, Rexx Thomasson, Brittany Duncan (Minh), Hunter Bevill (Kassi) and Dalton Lowenberg (Allie) Great-Grandchildren: Carson, Riley, Reegan, Landry, Ryder and Parker Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Due to covid-19, a private family visitation and burial at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery will follow.
