Samuel Arthur Lane, Jr., 94, was born March 8, 1927 in Helena, Arkansas, moved to Texarkana, TX and graduated from Texas High School in 1944, was in the Merchant Marines from 1944-1946, attended Four States Business College, married Margaret Postlewaite on October 24, 1947. He worked as an agent for Railway Express from 1947-1948, then employed by Red River Arsenal , and then the U. S. Post Office. He was in the U S Marine Corps Reserves, and then activated for the Korean War from 1949-1952, graduated from the University of Texas in 1959 with high honors and was President of the Senior Class and served on the President’s Council. He was DeSoto’s first pharmacist and partner in DeSoto Pharmacy. After retiring from Eckerd Drugs, he began volunteering at Methodist Charlton Hospital, Meals on Wheels, a long time member of Hampton Road Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of Deacons, and was on the Building Committee . His Greatest Moment – holding his baby daughter in his arms for the first time!
Survived by his wife: Margaret Lane, daughter: Sandra Artope, (husband John), grandsons: Lane Artope, and Luke Artope, brother: Joe Lane, Nieces & nephews: Harold Crabbe; Ernest Lane (wife Leigh Ann); Ramona McLean (husband Mike); Kim Raulston (husband Wade); John Lane (wife Theresa); Gary Lane; Angie Calhoon (husband Lance); and 17 great nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Hampton Road Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall, 400 N Hampton Road, DeSoto TX 75115. Interment follows at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6300 RL Thornton Fwy, Dallas TX 75232 with U S Marine Corps honors.
